Gascoyne Gateway Limited (GGL) wants to build an industrial port at Exmouth Gulf – an environment of global importance – and a vital resting and nursing ground for one of the planet’s largest humpback whale populations.
GGL is seeking environmental approval for its proposal, with public comment on its proposal now open.

Why we must stop Gascoyne Gateway’s port.
- The port would operate for over 100 years and damage the important and unique natural, cultural, and social values of Exmouth Gulf forever.
- The port would draw bulk cargo carriers, fuel tankers and other large ships up into Exmouth Gulf.
- Vulnerable mother and calf humpback whales, resting in the Gulf, face a high risk of vessel strikes or disturbance from underwater noise.
- This area is also home to threatened species, including dugongs, turtles, manta rays, sea snakes and dolphins.
- Over a million cubic metres of seabed would be dredged to make the port deep enough for large vessels.
- A rock causeway would extend out approximately 1 km into the fragile marine environment, damaging corals, seagrass meadows, and sponge gardens.
- The port and its onshore infrastructure would impact Qualing Pool, a significant freshwater body and a popular local beach.
