Fix compostable packaging in Queensland

Compostable plastics are ending up in the ocean and endangering wildlife, because Queensland doesn’t have the facilities to compost them.

The state government is asking for feedback on it’s first ever Queensland Organics Strategy. This is a rare chance to influence government policy on dealing with food waste and compostable packaging.

We need your help to show the government that Queenslanders want:

  1. Truth in labelling – products should not be labelled compostable unless they break down fast and leave no toxic effects on the soil.
  2. Kerbside collection of food and organics – so that all organics, including compostable plastics, get to the facilities they need to break down safely.

Submissions close on Monday 1 November, 5:00pm. Urge the government to act today!
