Macquarie Island science report launch - help to make sure your MP attends

Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek recently announced plans to triple the size of the marine park around the World Heritage-listed Macquarie Island in Australia’s Sub-Antarctic waters.

This opens the door to a once-in-a-decade opportunity to increase protection for one of the most unique environments on the planet.

There is much work to be done to ensure this proposal delivers the protection the region deserves, and a key first step is making sure that parliamentarians hear first-hand from leading scientists.

That’s why we’re launching a Macquarie Island science report in parliament next week, and we need your help to make sure your MP attends.

It’s vital that our parliamentarians hear first-hand from scientists about the threats bearing down on our Southern Ocean, and the role that highly protected marine sanctuaries can play in easing this pressure.

Please take 30 seconds to help ensure your local member of parliament learns about the importance of protecting Macquarie Island marine life.
