The waters off the NSW coastline boast coral reefs, kelp forest and seaweed-dominated ecosystems. These habitats are home to an amazing array of marine life that we love and cherish.
But they are poorly protected from a range of threats: climate change, fishing and industrial development.
We need the NSW Government to shift course and expand protection. So far, they’ve refused to budge from the decade-old status quo, sticking to tired policies and systems that have failed our coasts and oceans.
This has to change. If we don’t change course now, we risk losing those things we value — our amazing coasts and oceans and the wildlife that call them home.
Will you urge our decision-makers to commit to saving NSW’s oceans, coastlines and marine life for future generations?
Update September 2024: The NSW government has proposed to continue to deliver the former government’s Marine Estate Management Strategy. This old marine strategy is out of date and out of touch. It seeks alternative options to marine parks, which are the best tool we have to ensure marine life is safeguarded for future generations. It’s now even more important that we call for stronger marine protection in NSW!
