Festive50 Challenge
47 Rusty Rays in Anglesea set themselves a swimming challenge: to each ocean swim 50 kms in five weeks.
A group of local residents and visitors committed to swim 50 kms, or a distance aligned to their abilities, named the Festive50 challenge.
Ocean swimming is a demanding activity, as you need to negotiate waves and swells, and navigate in the open ocean.
The Festive50 community collectively swam more than 2,000km, roughly the same distance as swimming from Anglesea to Tasmania, around Tasmania and then back to Anglesea.
To celebrate their community achievement, a charity breakfast was organised, with $1.150 raised for the Australian Marine Conservation Society.
Greg, a Festive50 challenger said “The collective challenge of getting to our overall goal aligned neatly with the task of improving the oceans; no one person can get it done themselves, they need everyone to play their part.”
We are in awe of the community’s achievement and thank Festive50 for supporting our oceans.
