Phil’s Legacy
AMCS extends our deepest thanks to the late Dr. Philip Keith Bourne for protecting our ocean for future generations.
Phil lived life with curiosity and passion for the natural world. Awarded a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Zoology with Marine Zoology, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Marine Biology.
Finding the time to earn his diving qualifications – Phil spent his spare time diving while living in Fiji, before relocating to Australia in the late 1980s.
In 1990 he became an Australian citizen, and spent 31 years as a lecturer in physiology at Curtin University of Technology in Perth.
Phil referred to himself as a biologist, and loved living, teaching and studying in Australia.
We are eternally grateful to Phil for his lasting impact on his students, community, and the protection of marine life.
