Nature Laws Reform
Stronger ocean, reef and coastal protections have been secured thanks to your support.
In late 2025, ocean lovers across Australia celebrated the most promising improvements in environmental protection in over 20 years!
After years of working for reform, revised nature laws passed in federal parliament. Campaigns Director, Alexia Wellbelove and CEO Paul Gamblin met with the Federal Environment Minister to present a petition of more than 773,000 signatures in support of strong nature laws.
Together we’ve secured:
🩵Stronger safeguards for critical habitat, including the establishment of a National Environment Protection Agency.
🩵Firm foundations for effective National Environmental Standards.
🩵Closed loopholes that previously allowed extensive tree clearing in the Great Barrier Reef catchment without assessment.
While AMCS welcomes this progress, the hard-won reforms do not include consideration of climate impacts – essential to safeguarding our threatened species.
It is with your support that AMCS continues the fight to protect our precious marine wildlife – thank you.
