Just about half of the country is still in lockdown – which means some of the AMCS team is also in lockdown!
We’ve asked our staff members to share their favourite podcasts and shows with you.

Darren Kindleysides, CEO
Location: Brisbane, QLD
Are you in lockdown? Fortunately not.
What podcasts are you listening to at the moment?
Not sure what this says about me, but my current go to podcasts both combine comedy and food. Pick your best meal of all time with Off Menu featuring British comedians Ed Gamble and James Acaster. And a celebration of junk food with Dave O’Neil and Kitty Flanagan’s The Junkees.
For pure brain food, I found Louis Theroux’s Grounded recorded through lockdown to be gentle and thought provoking.
What about TV shows? I feel I should say Blue Planets 1 & 2… but when I do get the time I’ve recently been turning to some quality drama, A bit late to the party, but I’m watching HBO’s Chernobyl at the moment.

Are you in lockdown? Not at the moment! But there are some restrictions in QLD like mask wearing
What podcasts are you listening to at the moment? I love Mothers of Invention and The Poetry Magazine Podcast
What about TV shows? I love supernatural storytelling so have just started a recommendation – ‘Always a Witch’ on Netflix, about a time-travelling 17thC witch in modern day Colombia. Watching Broad City again as it’s one of my faves.

Are you in lockdown? Yes. Been locked down FOR…EVER…
What podcasts are you listening to at the moment?
- You’re Dead to Me from the BBC – brilliant combination of history and comedy
- The Cryptid Factor – genius and completely bonkers with the inimitable Rhys Darby
- There’s No Such Thing as a Fish – fascinating facts and comedy!
What about TV shows?
- Working our way through Brooklyn Nine-Nine – hilarious!
- Spirited on ABC – amusing, gentle and reminiscent of my punk years!
- Taskmaster on SBS- ridiculous and laugh out loud inducing…
There’s a theme here… give me all the comedy!

Are you in lockdown? Yep, please let there be a light at the end of the tunnel
What podcasts are you listening to at the moment? I’m not big on podcasts, but you can’t go past Hamish and Andy for some comic relief.
What about TV shows? I’m rewatching one of my all time favourites at the moment, Black Mirror. Other really good recent watches are The Serpent, Atypical and A Very English Scandal, all on Netflix.

Tooni Mahto, Fisheries and Threatened Species Campaign Manager
Location: Regional VIC
Are you in lockdown? Not at the moment; we’ve done 7 so far, which has been epic, and fully expecting another one to come along at any moment.
What podcasts are you listening to at the moment? These are all really UK centric. The Friday Night Comedy Podcast (BBC Radio 4 comedy), The Adam Buxton Podcast, Athletico Mince (this is a football podcast but it’s not about football, I have no interest in football, it’s about Bob Mortimer being Bob Mortimer), Intrigue, The Infinite Monkey Cage and Ecstasy: The Battle of Rave. Bit of a mixed bag….
What about TV shows? SBS have a really good run of documentaries and movies on at the moment, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Westworld. I also really like Escape to the Country as I can’t get home to the UK at the moment so I’m vicariously doing my UK visits via TV.

Are you in lockdown? Are there non-lockdown moments? I thought that was a dream… Home alone so lots of reading, podcasts, TV, and gardening.
What podcasts are you listening to at the moment?
- You’re Dead to Me – the one on Fairytales is great!
- Roxy Rogan’s The Imperfect Conservationist – AMCS has done some podcasts with her and she’s great to work with!
- Sleep Talk – I’m not getting much thanks to the craziness of meri-menopause
What about TV shows?
- Gardening Australia – I’m into permaculture, love Costa, and many of my permie friend’s have been on it!
- The Durrells – I love Greece and read all Gerald Durrell’s animal books in my teens
- The Newsreader – clever and moving trip through 1980s Aussie history through the eyes of a news studio
- Traces – I’m a sucker for Scottish accents and crime
- London Spy – brilliant spy thriller, love London, and a huge fan of Ben Wishart.
- Les Norton – brilliant comedy set in the 1980s Sydney Underworld.
- Northern Exposure (DVD) – up to series 4. An old fave from the 1990s. Alaska, off-beat comedy, philosophy and mooses.
- ABC & BBC drama and comedy are saving me in lockdown!

Location: Perth, WA
Are you in lockdown? No, am one of the lucky ones… so far
What podcasts are you listening to at the moment? Loads! I’m from the UK and I tend to gravitate towards podcasts from there so I get a little fix of home. For British politics I listen to the Oh God What Now pod, formerly Remaniacs, which entertainingly and intelligently analyses the lack of competence at the heart of British political leadership. For laughs I listen to the Wolf and Owl podcast which is basically comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis talking rubbish as well as showing their vulnerable sides. I also enjoy the bizarre and often surreal comedy pod The Beef and Diary Network and ‘90s guy Adam Buxton’s Ramblechat pod. For humanity and great stories, I love This American Life.
What about TV shows? I don’t watch a lot of TV, but the Inside Number 9 series is excellent. Think Tales of the Unexpected with sprinklings of comedy and northern UK accents.

Are you in lockdown? Somehow no! Despite some recent scares, we’ve been lucky this month.
What podcasts are you listening to at the moment?
I really love podcasts which profile people taking action to make the world a better place. I often listen to:
- Changemakers – Stories of people changing the world
- The Advocate – News for changemakers
- The Moth – Personal stories from the lives of people all over the world
- Welcome to Nightvale – A community radio station in a bizarre alternate world…
What about TV shows?
- Secret Life Of Us – a big 90s throwback, it’s on Netflix now!
- The Deep – an awesome kids show about exploring the deep oceans.
- Ms Represented – Annabel Crabb presents politics from the female perspective.
- Doctor Who – please release some new episodes soon!
