Review of management arrangements that support the Conservation Dependent listing of Scalloped Hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini) under the EPBC Act
This report details the findings of a review commissioned by the Australian Marine Conservation Society and Humane Society International, examining the undertakings of Queensland and the Northern Territory to have management measures in place for the conservation of the Scalloped Hammerhead Shark in order to support a Conservation Dependent status as opposed to an Endangered status.
The report finds that key protections promised for the species have not been put in place, and calls for Australia’s independent Threatened Species Scientific Committee (TSSC) to reconsider its recommended listing for scalloped hammerheads under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
