Carbon dumping is the latest greenwashing tactic being used by the fossil fuel industry to further its expansion, turning our oceans into their dumping ground along the way.
Japanese gas giant INPEX has just lodged plans with the federal environment department for Australia’s first offshore carbon dumping project (carbon capture and storage).
Carbon pollution dumping CCS projects would have alarming impacts on our marine environment and wildlife at every stage. This includes seismic blasting for many decades during and after the carbon pollution has been dumped.
When: Wednesday 3 December at 6pm ACST (7:30pm AEST, 4:30pm AWST).
The line-up of experts will include:
- Kirsty Howey, Executive Director of the Environment Centre NT
- Louise Morris, The Australia Institute
- Chelsea Deng, Australian Marine Conservation Society, Fossil Fuel Industry Campaigner
- Ryan Day, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania’s Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies.
Expert panellists will explain why bringing massive ships loaded with carbon dioxide waste to Darwin and then pumping it hundreds of kilometres through underwater pipelines before dumping it under the ocean floor is a recipe for disaster.
INPEX is progressing fast towards approvals for this unprecedented project and it’s Australian communities, nature and taxpayers that will pay the price.
With so much at stake, we need your help to stop Big Gas polluters from dumping on the NT, and to protect our oceans and the climate for future generations.
Zoom registration links will be sent out closer to the event.
