Iconic Ocean Places

Covering an area larger than our landmass, Australia’s marine jurisdiction is a natural blue wonder that sustains our economy, our climate, and our very identity.

In Australia, the ocean is a vital part of many of our lives, and where profound experiences and memories are forged – it’s also the engine of our survival.

We asked – what’s your most favourite iconic ocean place? Current polls show:

  1. 35% Great Barrier Reef, QLD
  2. 29% Ningaloo, WA
  3. 15% Lord How Island, NSW
  4. 7% Coral Sea, QLD
  5. 5% Great Southern Reef, SA
  6. 5% Heard Island & McDonald Islands, Antarctic
  7. 2% Gulf of Carpentaria, NT
