Fight for Our Reef 2023 Campaign Launch Party

Join us at the Salthouse to meet like-minded reef-lovers, hear about latest reef conservation updates and find out how you can help!

We’re launching our 2023 campaign in Cairns – and we want you to join us to celebrate!

Connect with other Reef lovers over a drink and delicious food at Salt House, our wonderful waterfront venue for the night. Find out from our campaigners how you can get involved in protecting our Reef this year, from participating in events and our fun market stalls, volunteering, and more.

You will have the chance to meet and Q&A with local campaigner Tanya Murphy who has more than a decade experience working as a diver and reef guide in Cairns, GBR campaign manager Lissa Schindler who has dived and worked in conservation all over Australia and the globe including in the Galapagos Islands; our sustainable fisheries campaigner Simon Miller who’s working on protecting the reef from risky commercial fishing practices; and we’ll hear from a tour operator who’s passionate about protecting the reef!

With major decisions on the horizon regarding the future of our Reef and its World Heritage Listed status, there’s no time to lose! Our 2023 campaign is focused on facilitating stronger action from our governments on climate change, water pollution and high risk fishing.

64,000 jobs depend on the Reef – every year it receives an average of 2.5 million visitors and contributes $6.4 billion to the Australian economy. 9000 species live in the Reef catchment area – it is home to some our most iconic species like dugongs and snubfin dolphins, and is a globally important breeding ground for species of seabirds and marine turtles.

Together, we can fight to ensure our Reef’s future and unique biodiversity are preserved for many future generations to enjoy.
