Healthy waterways equal a healthy Reef, so join the Fight for Our Reef campaign and OzFish to remove trash from a highly littered section of Lily Creek before the wet season comes along to wash it all into the ocean! You’ll see a tangible difference as we make this inner-city creek sparkle for the fish and vegetation who call it home, and log the data to find out where all this trash is coming from!
With gloves, bags and grabbers provided, this cleanup is a concentrated blitz of a small area and will only take about 1 hour. Then we’ll enjoy some pizza, snacks and drinks and hear from OzFish Cairns Project Manager Phil Laycock who will teach us more about the aquatic life of Cairns’ waterways, why they’re important for the marine environment and how we can help monitor and restore them. We’ll also hear an update about the Fight for Our Reef campaign from Tanya Murphy.
Bring: Enclosed shoes, hat, sun-smart clothes, mosquito repellant, optional camp chair or picnic rug. Some chairs will be provided.
