Call for an action plan to cut Reef water pollution

Our Great Barrier Reef is home to incredible wildlife, including iconic species like dugongs, sea turtles and rare sharks and rays found nowhere else on earth.

Our Reef is being pushed to its limits by climate change. Yet the Australian and Queensland governments have missed their water quality targets for the third time, putting our Reef and its iconic species at risk. Water pollution kills seagrass, the sole food source for dugongs, threatening their survival.

The government is now consulting on their Reef Catchment Water Quality Strategy, which must clearly map out the actions required to meet water quality targets by 2030. The current vague plan falls far short of what’s required.

But we still have a chance to change this. The government is currently consulting on the draft plan. This is our chance to urge them to strengthen the plan and deliver significant improvements in water quality to protect our precious Reef and its unique and threatened wildlife.

Please add your name to tell the government they need a clear action plan to cut water pollution – before the consultation period closes on 19th of November.
