Dear Prime Minister,
At the same time as COVID-19 has spread around the world, the Great Barrier Reef experienced record breaking temperatures, leading to a mass bleaching event. This is the third climate change triggered mass bleaching in just five years.
Australia needs a positive plan for clean energy, not more of the dirty fossil fuels that caused this problem in the first place.
Together, let’s make sure we rebuild in a way that gives our Reef its best chance at a healthy future while creating jobs and opportunities where they’re needed.
Prime Minister, will you:
- Turbocharge renewable energy projects, supporting clean energy and storage from households up.
- Fund work in the Reef catchment on the farms, wetlands and creeks that flow into our Reef waters – improving the water quality.
- Support our vital tourism workers and industry through these tough times so they’re still there for us on the other side.
It is also crucial that no backwards steps are taken that could stop progress towards cleaning up our energy system and providing our Reef with its best shot of recovery.
