Scott Reef

Australia’s Climate and Ocean Credibility on the Line.

Scott Reef is under threat from Woodside’s gas expansion plans. We are mobilising public support and building the political mandate to ensure this proposal is rejected.

Scott Reef is one of Australia’s most spectacular and vital coral reefs. It is home to over 1,000 species, including endangered whales, sea snakes, and rare green and hawksbill turtles.

Rising nearly a kilometre from the ocean floor, this hidden treasure rivals Ningaloo Reef in biodiversity, but its fragile ecosystem is under immediate threat.

The Browse Basin lies about 270 kilometres off the Kimberley coast in Western Australia. Woodside plans to drill up to 50 oil and gas wells near Scott Reef, piping the gas almost 1,000 kilometres to Karratha for processing at the North West Shelf plant.

But distance does not erase responsibility. This industrial project would place Scott Reef, and the precious marine life that relies on it, directly in harm’s way while adding millions of tonnes of climate pollution and causing irreversible damage to marine ecosystems.

The threat is not just local, its impacts could ripple across other critical marine environments already under pressure from marine heatwaves driven by climate change. Further industrial activity risks pushing vulnerable species, like whales, turtles, and the last remaining dusky sea snakes closer to collapse.

This is a defining moment for how we protect our ocean and a critical moment for our shared future. That future starts with you.

In 2026, we are raising funds to stop Woodside’s destructive gas expansion, protect Scott Reef, and build a powerful, long-term movement for ocean conservation. By donating TODAY your support will help to:

With your support, we can ensure that Scott Reef remains a thriving, resilient reef for generations to come.

All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans. Please be assured your gift will go to work to be the voice for Australia’s oceans, working on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife.
