The last estimate for wild Australian sea lion populations was only 6,500 mature adults.
Today, there could be less.
They are at such low levels that this year the conservation status of the species was downgraded to ‘endangered’ under Australian law.
Make no mistake, we are on the frontline of an extinction crisis. Australia has the worst mammal extinction rate of any country in the world.
