A Global Plastics Treaty represents a once in a generation opportunity to stop rising plastic pollution, by securing enforceable global rules and targets for plastic reduction.
For the first time, the world’s nations have come together to find solutions to the plastic pollution crisis. The treaty has the potential to cover the full life cycle of plastic – from the way products are produced, designed and used, to waste management, and the resources and funding that will be needed to clean up the world’s oceans.
As global negotiations on a landmark United Nations treaty to end plastic pollution enter the final stages, it is critical that nations deliver on the unique opportunity to deliver lasting global reductions in plastic pollution.
To seize this opportunity, we must inspire Australia to be a leader in negotiations, and hold strong against the handful of nations that are putting profits over the planet, and are holding the world back. We must secure support for ambitious and legally binding provisions that will cap the production and use of plastic and ensure nations implement the treaty in full.
In 2025 we are seeking to raise $268,600 to deliver this critical campaign. By donating TODAY you can help ensure:
- A cap on plastic production – binding obligations and targets to cap production of plastics to safe planetary limits for sustainable use of resources.
- New rules on how fishing gear is designed, used and disposed of to minimise gear loss and ensure recovery of ghost fishing gear
- A global fund is established to assist Small Island Developing States manage extreme volumes of plastic pollution
- A global register of single-use plastic products, plastic polymers and chemicals of concern that are to be phased out in all signatory states.
All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans.
