Origin of Species

There is something fishy about seafood labelling.

Demand increased transparency of the origin of seafood species entering our stores and prevent the sale of illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing products in Australia.

About 65% of the seafood we eat in Australia is imported. Currently, those imports are allowed into the country and onto our plates without any rules or standards for traceability, sustainability, or ethics.

Without rules or standards on imported seafood, Australia risks being a dumping ground for seafood from illegal, destructive and exploitative fisheries and farms.
Further, our poor traceability and labelling requirements makes it challenging to know what we’re really eating, and where it’s from.

It’s time for action and to have our voices heard – to demand strong import rules and better labelling for all seafood sold in Australia.

Together with industry and NGOs, AMCS is working hard to ensure a fair catch for our seafood.

We are seeking to raise $386,650 in 2025 to support this important campaign. By donating TODAY you can help ensure:

All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans. Please be assured your gift will go to work to be the voice for Australia’s oceans, working on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife.
