Back 60,000 Years of Sea Country Leadership
Fund local and global opportunities for First Nations leaders to share knowledge, build influence, and strengthen advocacy to protect and manage Sea Country.
First Nations peoples have rights, interests and deep connections across all of AMCS’ campaign work, and our operations are relevant to justice and equity for First Nations peoples.
Supporting First Nations Sea Country delegates to attend national and international knowledge-sharing opportunities and high-level meetings is vital to ensuring Traditional Knowledge and leadership is recognised, understood and applied more broadly.
For example, in 2023, AMCS supported a delegation of li-Anthawirriyarra Sea Rangers from the Gulf of Carpentaria to attend and be part of international Indigenous knowledge sharing and advancing Indigenous led Marine Protected Areas.
More recently, our campaign to End Plastic Pollution in Australia’s ocean supported a delegation of Dhimurru Aboriginal Corporation Rangers to share their stories and insights from the front line of plastic pollution at events in Canberra, Korea and Switzerland, as part of Global Plastics Treaty negotiations.
We seek your support to help us build stronger partnerships and bring Traditional Knowledge, science, practices and experiences to the decision making table and promote the adoption of Indigenous-led approaches, in ocean and coastal decisions.
In 2026 we are seeking to raise funds to support this vital work to amplify the 60,000 years of expertise with current scientific and advocacy efforts to safeguard Sea Country. By donating TODAY you will enable:
- Knowledge-sharing, partnership initiatives and opportunities to elevate First Nations voices to ensure they are heard as part of decision making, including connecting decision-makers with the impacts of plastic pollution on Sea Country in some of the country’s most remote locations.
- AMCS to provide expert science and advocacy advice and resources as First Nations peoples face growing threats to Sea Country. This includes supporting First Nations peoples autonomy and right to manage current and emerging threats on Sea Country.
- Travel for Traditional Custodians to and from remote locations, elevating First Nations voices and asks on addressing ocean threats, and supporting delegations to attend national and international meetings and decision making fora.

All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans. Please be assured your gift will go to work to be the voice for Australia’s oceans, working on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife.
