The root cause? Fossil fuels. The impacts? Rising sea levels, warming oceans, acidification and storm/surge damage which are fundamentally changing our oceans and our lives.
Australia is one of the world’s largest exporters of fossil fuels, much of which are drilled from underneath our oceans. We are also home to some of the richest and most important marine environments on the planet, overlapping with where drilling does or is proposed to happen.
The expansion of offshore fossil fuel production threatens our climate, and risks huge direct impacts on precious marine habitats and species.
A limited window exists to stop offshore fossil fuel exploration and safeguard wildlife. Your support will help sustain campaign efforts to stop seismic blasting in important habitats for whales and wildlife, and ultimately stop offshore fossil fuel exploration in our oceans.
And while we need to stop drilling for fossil fuels, the transition to renewable energy is well underway. As a leading voice for Australia’s oceans, AMCS has a vital role to play in shaping the renewables transition in the oceans and driving ambitious climate action for our oceans.
Australia has the natural resources and technical know-how to be global leaders in this transition. For our oceans and the life they support, we must be doing all we can to support a rapid transition to renewables that is informed and just.
