These are some of the richest, yet least protected waters in Australia.
Rapidly warming waters, combined with heavy commercial fishing pressure and impacts from oil and gas industry activities, have created a perfect storm of decline in the south-east.
Your gift will help protect our south-east marine life. You will play a critical role in our fight for our south-east:
- Marine Parks: The south-east marine park network currently has the poorest marine park protection in the country, with 92% of the region without marine sanctuary protection. We must more than double the area protected in marine sanctuaries.
- Oil & Gas: The oil and gas industry is in a mad rush to expand in south-east Australia’s seas. They threaten our seas and marine life with damaging seismic blasting and drilling and the very real risk of oil spills. Australia must stop approving new oil and gas mining in Australia’s southeast seas.
- Threatened Species: Australia is home to the most incredible marine life on Earth, and many of our species occur nowhere else. Australia needs to urgently introduce strong laws that stop the destruction and restore nature to health.
The challenges are significant, but the solutions are crystal clear.
