Expanding the fight for a fossil-fuel free future in Australia’s oceans.
Funds are urgently needed to defend our oceans and marine life from fossil fuel expansion and carbon pollution dumping in Australia’s oceans, from east to west.
The science is clear: this decade is our last chance to end our dependence on fossil fuels and destructive environmental practices.
The fossil fuel industry, driven by profit, is not only jeopardising our climate but also putting some of the world’s most biodiverse marine environments at risk. The expansion of offshore oil and gas production threatens fragile marine ecosystems and countless species.
In the west, Woodside is proposing to drill over 50 new wells around Scott Reef, a coral paradise that supports nearly 1,000 species. In the south, other fossil fuel companies are applying for permits to conduct seismic blasting, which sends violent sound explosions into the ocean floor every 15 seconds, 24/7, harming marine life with sometimes lethal effects.
The Australian Government is also opening up our oceans to dumping carbon pollution (carbon capture and storage, or CCS), a dangerous distraction from action to stop the climate crisis.
This madness must stop.
The fight against offshore fossil fuels requires more than just awareness—it demands urgent action. Our campaign to protect Australia’s oceans needs expertise, collaboration, resources, and a strong communications strategy to secure lasting outcomes for our marine environments.
In 2025 we aim to raise $420,000 to support this crucial work. Your donation will help:
- Empower local communities and stakeholders to oppose new fossil fuel exploration in Australia’s south-eastern and north-western regions
- Strengthen partnerships with national and international eNGOs to challenge the false gas-as-transition narrative, and expose the risks of carbon pollution dumping CCS.
- Enhance communications to raise awareness of fossil fuel expansion’s harm to nature and climate, focusing on Scott Reef and pygmy blue whale habitats
- Strengthen the biodiversity case against fossil fuel expansion and grow public opposition

The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans.
