Protecting Western Australia’s Wild Reefs and Oceans.
World-class Scott Reef is threatened by fossil fuel exploration. Help us launch a targeted campaign to stop these threats in their tracks!
Remote Scott Reef, located off the Kimberley coast, is one of Australia’s most ecologically significant coral reefs, rivalling Ningaloo Reef in biodiversity.
It supports over 1,000 species, from vibrant corals and fish to endangered green turtles, migratory pygmy blue whales, and sea snakes, including the endangered dusky sea snake that’s found nowhere else.
Scott Reef sits on the Browse offshore gas field where fossil fuel giant Woodside wants to drill over 50 gas wells, some as close as 2km to the reef, putting this remarkable and fragile marine ecosystem in jeopardy. It would also be a major part of the Burrup Hub gas project that would emit over 6 billion tonnes of greenhouse gasses.
The risks to this precious reef are immense. The waters around Scott Reef would become an industrial gas zone disrupting and harming marine life, including endangered species, and degrading the very ecosystem that supports this biodiversity.
But there is still time to stop the remarkable Scott Reef being damaged forever.
Its future is currently in the hands of the federal and WA state governments. They have the power to reject Woodside’s destructive plans and protect this marine treasure.
We need to bring this fight right into the public’s mind. Help us stand up for beautiful Scott Reef now and protect it before it’s too late.
In 2025 we are seeking to raise $345,000 to support this vital work. You donation TODAY will help us:
- Launch a compelling creative communications campaign with digital, print, and billboard ads
- Fund a full-time campaigner in WA to build grassroots support and political advocacy, working with our campaign collaborators
- Produce science reports and policy analysis to back our efforts
- Facilitate essential travel to connect campaign efforts across states
- Organise events on east and west coasts to unite communities in protecting WA’s oceans and coasts.
All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans. Please be assured your gift will go to work to be the voice for Australia’s oceans, working on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife.
