Support the fight to protect the world’s greatest barrier reef.
Help fund on-ground advocacy work with scientists, local communities and government. Together, we can secure permanent protections for our Reef!
AMCS has been fighting to protect the Great Barrier Reef for over 60 years.
Recognised as one of the defining moments in Australian History, AMCS co-led a national campaign to protect the Great Barrier Reef from oil drilling and coral mining. This was the first of many victories AMCS has helped secure for the Reef, including securing its Marine Park status in 1979.
Today the marine park is over 344,400 km2, a listed World Heritage Area with significant sanctuary and gillnet free zones.
Yet, the fight to protect this iconic reef continues as we tackle contemporary threats of climate change, water pollution and unsustainable commercial fishing. This includes strong scientific, community and political advocacy at local, national and international scales.
Thanks to your continued support, AMCS remains as committed as ever to defending the world’s greatest reef and supporting marine life, habitats, tourism, and communities that depend on it.
In 2025 we are seeking to raise $525,000 to refocus our fight to protect the world’s greatest barrier reef. By choosing to donate TODAY, you will help support:
- Advocating for international oversight and bipartisan support to protect the Great Barrier Reef from climate change, pollution, and overfishing.
- Engaging with communities in regional Queensland to connect people with politics, support volunteers, and build local networks.
- Active regional campaigners, supporting local stakeholders and businesses, and bringing the Reef’s importance to Canberra through lobbying and events.
- Enhancing messaging on reef bleaching and working with scientists to develop effective strategies to ensure Reef protection in the face of climate change impacts.
- Conducting polling and message testing to empower communities in reef conservation and decision-making and launching a bigger, bolder national advocacy campaign for reef protection.
All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans. Please be assured your gift will go to work to be the voice for Australia’s oceans, working on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife.
