Refining our strategy to tackle the biggest threats facing Australia’s oceans

Australia’s oceans are facing an unprecedented array of threats, from the devastating impacts of climate change to overfishing, habitat destruction, and plastic pollution. As the world’s largest island nation, Australia has a global responsibility to protect its marine environment, and to do so, we must refine and adapt our strategy for the challenges of this decade.
We need governments to take a bold new approach to ensure the resilience of our oceans, ecosystems, and the millions of people who rely on them. This means revisiting and refining our existing strategy for marine conservation, integrating new scientific insights, and crafting solutions that are both innovative and adaptable.
Key to this refined blueprint is driving action on climate, strengthening marine protection areas, reducing water pollution, and advancing sustainable fishing practices. It’s also crucial that we deepen our connections with academics and research institutions, to ensure policies and laws are based on evidence, not politics.
But we can’t do this alone. In 2025 we are seeking to raise $350,000 for this vital work. Your support will help:
- Build a comprehensive strategy that addresses current threats and ensures our oceans thrive for generations to come.
- Enable the development of data-driven laws and policies for coastal and ocean protection, and empower local communities to take action.
- Drive action to secure government investment in a future where Australia’s oceans are not just protected, but are thriving and resilient in the face of change.
All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans.
