Direct Intervention

Mobilising rescue missions and other interventions to protect marine life.

Help protect nature and culture on Sea Country by supporting direct interventions that mitigate pressures on vulnerable species and ecosystems.

Australia’s Sea Country is under threat from overfishing, plastic pollution, and climate change, threatening the marine life and cultural heritage that First Nations communities have cared for for millennia.

As we work together to protect our oceans, there are moments when a direct, opportunistic intervention can drive profound impact—something that aligns perfectly with our mission but lies slightly outside our usual advocacy framework.

One powerful example is our collaborative work with the Malak Malak Rangers in the Northern Territory, focusing on the conservation of sawfish species. These rescue missions have been a vital and necessary control to prevent local extinctions caused by fishing pressures and safeguard critical breeding grounds from extractive water use.

These timely interventions often arise unexpectedly, and as collaborators with a network of environmental NGOs, scientists, First Nations communities and ranger groups, we are uniquely positioned to identify and support when the opportunity presents itself.

In 2025 we are raising funds for direct interventions that support the protection of both nature and culture on some of Australia’s most remote Sea Country.
Every dollar you contribute will help enable these life-saving projects, ensuring the preservation of our unique marine species and the cultural values that go hand-in-hand with their protection.

We are seeking to raise $92,000 to protect nature, preserve culture, and take direct action where it matters most. Some of the types of projects your donation will help us be prepared to take action on include:

Donate to join the fight!

All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans. Please be assured your gift will go to work to be the voice for Australia’s oceans, working on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife.
