Charting an Ambitious Course to Aid in the Recovery of Threatened Species Populations
Help increase transparency and accountability for high-risk commercial fisheries by calling for independent monitoring to protect marine life.
Australia’s oceans are home to incredible wildlife, from dugongs, turtles and sawfish in our tropical north to dolphins and Australian sea lions around our southern coast.
However, many of these species are threatened by commercial fishing, with declining populations
Fishers are meant to report their interactions with these iconic species. But we know that in many of Australia’s highest-risk fisheries, these deaths are being covered up and under-reported.
This can’t happen if we want a future for our threatened ocean wildlife. We need an accurate picture of what is being caught.
Independent monitoring is the solution. Cameras on boats provide accurate data that we need to ensure the recovery of threatened species populations.
In 2025 we are seeking to raise $250,000 for this important campaign. By donating TODAY you will be helping to secure:
- Accurate data on the incidental catch of threatened species in Australia’s highest risk fisheries
- Transparent reporting so that scientists, fisheries managers and the public know the true cost of our seafood
- Better data that is the crucial to manage the impact of our commercial fisheries to ensure that our iconic threatened species can recover and thrive
- Improve the standards of our commercial fisheries to meet worlds best-practice and help transition to improved ratings on our GoodFish sustainable seafood guide.
All donations over $2 are 100% tax-deductible. The projects featured in the Funding Prospectus are priority campaign activities and needs for which we are urgently seeking funds – current at the time of posting or going to press. As time progresses, there may be some cases in which the project you have selected may already be fully funded. In that instance, we would be delighted to discuss where the need is greatest at the given time. All of our campaigns work in symbiotic support of our mission to protect our oceans.
