FUNDED: UN Plastics Mission

This treaty could save millions of marine animals

Next month, United Nations member states will gather in Paris to negotiate a global treaty to end plastic pollution… but powerful plastics companies are fighting back.

We cannot let fossil fuel companies drown out the voices of marine scientists!

We need to raise $10,000  before 1st May, to send our Plastics Campaign Manager, Shane Cucow, to the UN Global Plastics Treaty negotiations in Paris next month.

If you donate today, Shane will work on your behalf, to stop big petrochemical companies from derailing much needed solutions. This is our opportunity to fight for a global solution that will clean up our oceans.

Please chip in to ensure that marine plastics experts are represented in the UN negotiations.

Will you donate to protect the Global Plastics Treaty?

Hi, I’m Shane.

This time last year, I put everything in storage to travel the country and see first hand the ocean plastics crisis in Australia. I met with marine researchers, wildlife rescue centres and everyday Australians who are working hard to clean up our coasts and oceans.

From the sea lions of the south, to the remote turtles and whale sharks of Ningaloo reef, it was magical to see the special places and wildlife that we are working to protect.

And it was terrifying to see how plastic has reached every last corner of our wild and beautiful landscape.

From the beaches of Tasmania, to the wild waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria, plastic packaging, nets, and trash are filling up our once pristine oceans – suffocating and starving our threatened turtles, seabirds and whales.

That’s why I’m asking for your help to support a global treaty to end plastic pollution.

It would mean the world to me if you could chip in to send me to the UN negotiations next month, so I can fight for our oceans.

Send Shane to the UN Negotiations

Our oceans need a voice at the negotiating table.

This Global Plastics Treaty could be the change our oceans desperately need to stem the tide of plastic pollution. But not if big plastic companies get in the way.

At the last negotiating meeting, representatives of petrochemical companies were actively lobbying national delegations, pushing back against much needed solutions to reduce plastic.

Recent research has shown that the plastic in our oceans will triple in the next 20 years, unless the world urgently halts the production of new plastic.¹

This meeting will be the first time nations consider legally binding measures to reduce plastic.

We cannot let fossil fuel companies drown out the voices of marine scientists.

$10,000 will mean we can be at the UN negotiations in Europe next month to share science-based research into devastating impacts of plastic pollution on Australia’s oceans.

With your support, we can be there to remind nations what’s at stake. We can be the voice for ocean wildlife and the planet our children will inherit.
