There's not a protected part of Australia's oceans that we haven't fought for. Back when conservation was an emerging concept in Australia, in the 1960s and 70s, it was AMCS who convinced the Australian Government to commit to creating marine parks and environmental protection laws.

We were the first environmental group to put water quality on the agenda and to put mangrove and seagrass conservation in the picture. We surveyed the corals along the Great Barrier Reef and we fought in the courts to help make it a World Heritage Marine Park. We stopped oil and coral mining there too. We mapped the mangroves in Kakadu to protect it as well. We saved Ningaloo Reef from a massive marina, which threatened the migrating whale sharks that travel there each year. We’ve championed Australia’s sustainable seafood movement. We've reformed fisheries around the country.

We've put Australia's coasts and oceans on the map.

Our marine national parks, threatened species laws and healthy oceans simply would not exist without AMCS working with scientists, fishers, tourism and ocean lovers around Australia, pushing for their protection.

With so many pressures, and a climate of shrinking government support, AMCS depends on the will and investment of the community. We cannot continue to do what we do without you.

All donations of $2 or more are 100% tax-deductible.
