Save Our Sanctuaries!
In an appalling move in March 2013, the New South Wales Government took a giant leap backwards for the state's precious marine life. Going against science, public opinion and law, the O'Farrell Government has permitted recreational fishing in marine sanctuary zones along beaches and headlands.
And yet the science is clear - marine sanctuaries are critical to protecting our oceans. They increase the number and size of fish within the sanctuary and also replenish neighbouring areas. Less than 7% of NSW waters are protected in marine sanctuaries and over 85% of the people of NSW agree that our oceans need sanctuaries where life is safe from harm. We cannot afford this wind-back, which is the first of its kind in the world. It’s time to tell the NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell to stop playing politics with our precious marine life. Take action below!
