International community agrees to better protect Earth’s oceans

Efforts to protect the world’s oceans have received a boost as the world’s leading environmental summit, the IUCN World Conservation Congress, agreed to advance international action to create marine reserves, protect whales and respond to the escalating impacts of ocean warming. Over the weekend, the Members’ Assembly of the IUCN came to an end, adopting a suite of important motions to conserve the world’s oceans.
